Distribution Transformer Winding Connections

However, the downside of this connection is that it does not provide a neutral point, which could result in unbalanced voltages and currents.
Wye connection, on the other hand, connects the primary and secondary windings to a common point called the neutral. The neutral is usually grounded for safety purposes. The wye connection offers several advantages as well, including providing a neutral point, allowing unbalanced loads to be connected, and reducing the impedance between the transformer winding and ground. However, the downside of this connection is that it produces lower efficiency and a higher cost due to the extra winding.
In conclusion, selection of the winding connection depends on various factors such as the application, load type, and system voltage. Each connection has its advantages and disadvantages, and the right choice depends on the specific requirements of the power system.
