Dry Resin Transformer Maintenance

1. Economic significance of dry resin transformer maintenance

According to the experience of the transformer management department and the operation department, the dry resin transformer has the highest failure rate in the first 10 years of operation, especially in the first 3 years of operation.

According to the operating experience of the US power sector, for 765kV ultra-high voltage transformers, the initial failure rate of operation is very high. Many failures occurred in the first few days of operation, or even within a few hours or even tens of minutes of operation. Therefore, we must pay attention to and strengthen the operation and maintenance of the transformer in the initial stage of operation.

Although in the initial stage of operation, it will cost a certain amount of money to overhaul and replace parts, but the consumption of these costs is very valuable for timely or early detection of existing defects and avoiding serious consequences later.

Practice has proven that a good maintenance program can extend the life of the transformer. Therefore, the economic significance of establishing a maintenance program is to extend the life of the transformer.

2. Dry Resin Transformer Maintenance Strategy

There are generally three strategies for transformer maintenance: predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, and conditional maintenance.

Predictive maintenance is the use of automatic alarm diagnosis device to monitor the transformer. Predictive maintenance requires the means and methods of condition analysis. For example, analysis of various performance indicators of transformer oil, infrared detection, appearance inspection of transformer, analysis of dissolved gas in oil, etc.

Preventive maintenance is a periodic, phased maintenance strategy. It includes planned maintenance, such as regular testing of transformers, live test and online monitoring of transformers according to the plan. Preventive maintenance is a kind of maintenance carried out by the manufacturer to set the maintenance time after the state analysis.

Condition-based maintenance is performed on problematic transformers. It entails detailed analysis, inspection, repair or replacement of parts of dry resin transformers requiring repair replacement.
