How a Dry Cast Resin Transformers Works

Dry cast resin transformers are mainly cast type and open type, and the cast type is more commonly used in these two structures. Generally, users need to bring a shell, that is, a cabinet, when using dry-type transformers, but some of them are only exposed indoors. As for the occasions used, such as subway traction, power distribution, living lighting, trolleybuses, power plants, etc. can be used, the capacity is generally not too large, even a few thousand kVA is very large.

A coil has two or more windings, where the winding connected to the power source is called the primary coil and the rest of the windings are called the secondary coil. It can transform AC voltage, current and impedance. Energy transfer is actually the electromagnetic principle, that is, the voltage and current are input on the primary side, and the induced voltage and current on the secondary side will be consumed after transmission. This consumption is no-load loss and eddy current loss when there is no load, and the first two items are added to the load loss when there is a load.

A transformer is a device that converts AC voltage, current and impedance. The main insulation of dry cast resin transformers often adopts the same insulating structural components as oil-immersed transformers: insulating paper tubes, angle rings, element separators, etc. In the insulation design of dry-type transformers, in addition to ensuring the insulation strength, special attention should be paid to ensure that there are enough air cooling ducts between the coils. And pay attention to the placement of the insulating parts to ensure that the air can smoothly contact the coil.

The safe operation and service life of dry cast resin transformers depend to a large extent on the safety and reliability of the transformer winding insulation. The insulation damage caused by the winding temperature exceeding the insulation withstand temperature is one of the main reasons why the dry-type transformer cannot work normally. Therefore, the monitoring and alarm control of the operating temperature of the transformer is very important.
